Why Living in Indonesia is an Advantage for Me to Build Wealth

Jakarta, Indonesia, is my hometown. This is the country where I was born. However, I was mostly overseas, living in Singapore and the United States when I was young. It was a privilege for me to receive my education from developed countries. If it wasn't because of my father working hard, I wouldn't get this kind of opportunity.

After graduating from San Francisco State University with a finance major, I decided to move back to Jakarta, Indonesia, to pursue my career. I did regret coming back too soon since I wasn't making the kind of income I was hoping for. I should have tried to apply for a job in the United States after graduating from university.

It has been almost 8 years since I moved back to Jakarta, Indonesia. I did think about how my life would be if I had stayed in the United States instead of moving back to Jakarta, Indonesia. I know I could have earned and accumulated wealth if I had a decent paying job in the United States. However, after doing some critical thinking and comparison, I concluded that deciding to move back to Jakarta was the right thing for me to do.

I know working in my father's company doesn't generate much income for me. I could have made a better wage if I was working in the United States. However, I believe living in Jakarta, Indonesia has its own advantage for me. Despite earning a meager income, living in Jakarta, Indonesia, is still perfect for building my own personal wealth. In this article, I will explain why living in Jakarta, Indonesia is excellent for me to build my own personal wealth. Moreover, I'll explain why moving back to my hometown is the right thing for me to do.

Low Living Cost.

Living in Jakarta, Indonesia, has a lower living cost compared to living in the United States. I used to always complain about the wage I was making from working in my father's company. I often compare it with how much my friends were making in the United States. However, after I did some critical thinking, I actually realized that even though my wage is low, my living cost in Jakarta, Indonesia, is low. For instance, the price of my dining out in a nice restaurant is much cheaper in Indonesia compared to the United States. I wouldn't be able to purchase these delicious meals in the United States for the price I'm paying in my country.

Because living cost in Jakarta, Indonesia is much cheaper than overseas, this can be advantageous for me to build wealth. People living in the United States are making a better income than me; however, they cannot save and invest most of their income due to the high living cost they have to upkeep for living in that country. If you cannot save and invest your income, you cannot build wealth.

I built my personal wealth because I lived in Jakarta, Indonesia, with very little expense. Yes, I indeed have a low income; however, since the cost of living in Indonesia is very low, I could still save and invest most of my income. Moreover, I don't have to worry about monthly rent expense since I live with my parents. Renting a small apartment in San Francisco is not cheap, and it can take away the majority of your monthly income. If I am about to complain about my wage, I should always think of the living cost as well.

Take Advantage of Online Industries.

I know it's really annoying to see that I am making very little compared to people working in the United States. Thus, I needed to find a solution to how I can make U.S. dollar currency while living in Jakarta, Indonesia. I was fortunate to be able to speak and communicate in English. Because of this, I can actually take advantage of my skill to be used in my country.

The Internet has many open opportunities all over the world to make some money. One great example is YouTube. People can create video content from all over the world to make money online. I have seen a successful YouTuber who is an American citizen that actually moved to Bali, Indonesia. He can earn the same income from YouTube even though he relocates to a different country. In fact, he is probably taking advantage of Indonesia's low living cost and making the same income from YouTube. If he was still living in the United States, he probably wouldn't save and invest more of his income since living cost there is really high.

I am planning to do the same as the person I mentioned above. I know that most jobs in Indonesia are probably low pay compared to employment in the United States; however, I can always take advantage of the online industries to make a good income. Becoming a YouTuber is actually one of my plans to make some extra money. I can pursue this career despite not being able to live in the United States. I can create and produce video content from anywhere in the world. This is why I think YouTube is an excellent way to take advantage of the online industries. If I can become a financial guru YouTuber, I can make a significant income and still have a low living cost living in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Still Able to Operate My Investment Portfolio in the United States.

Living in Jakarta, Indonesia doesn't stop me from managing my investment stock portfolio in the United States. I was fortunate to have opened up a brokerage account when I just moved back to Jakarta. If I didn't open one at that time, I wouldn't have my own stock brokerage account.

Even though I am living in Jakarta, Indonesia, I can still manage and operate my U.S. stock investment portfolio. Thanks to the Internet, I can access my account from anywhere in the world. I am still managing my stock investment portfolio from my country. I know that I am not a U.S. citizen and can't take advantage of a 401K retirement account, but managing a stock portfolio based in the United States will do the same.

I am treating my U.S. stock investment portfolio as if it's for my retirement. I am always contributing $2,000 every month to the account to build the wealth I always wanted. Hopefully, I can use the money from my portfolio account when I need it. I can simply transfer cash from my brokerage account to my bank accounts in the United States. This is important since I can simply transfer the fund to my bank accounts when I need to use the money when I am visiting San Francisco.

I'm delighted that I have a U.S. investment stock portfolio account since I can take advantage of the American economy despite not actually living there. I believe that I shouldn't rely on investing in my country and investing in countries such as the United States. Having a U.S. based stock portfolio, I can take advantage of the U.S. economy and create the wealth that I always wanted.

Need to Learn My Father's Business.

This is actually the prime reason I need to move back to Jakarta, Indonesia, after graduating from San Francisco State University. I am not happy about the wage I am receiving from my dad because I actually forget that my father's business will one day be handed over to my older brother and me. I might indeed be able to make more income if I was working in the United States; however, I will then lose the opportunity of learning about my father's business.

If I was still living in the United States, I wouldn't know the culture in Indonesia. It has been almost 8 years since I moved back from San Francisco and I realized I actually learn a lot from my father while working in his company. I was able to understand how businesses operate in Indonesia. I wouldn't be able to learn these things if I was still living in the United States.

In Conclusion

After doing much critical thinking and comparison, I conclude that moving back to Jakarta, Indonesia is the right choice for me. Yes, I know that I am not making as much money as people living in the United States; however, I need to consider the low living cost in Indonesia.

Even though I am living in Indonesia, I can still pursue a career in the online industry. I hope I can find the solution to make U.S. currency while living in Jakarta, Indonesia. This way, it can be advantageous for me since my living expense is much lower than in the United States.

Also, I can still invest and manage my stock portfolio in the United States from my country. Living in Jakarta, Indonesia, doesn't stop me from working and planning towards my retirement. If I need to move back to San Francisco one day, I always have the money for it. By managing and investing in my U.S. stock portfolio, I can one day use the money to visit San Francisco.

Furthermore, my father's business is the most important reason for moving back to Jakarta, Indonesia. Learning to operate and manage a company is not an easy task. If I didn't move back to Jakarta after graduating from my university, I wouldn't learn many essential things from my dad. Many of these things can't learn from school and require experiencing it by yourself.

Moving back to Jakarta, Indonesia, is the right choice for me to make. I can still pursue my career and build my own personal wealth despite not living in the United States. Thanks to the Internet, I can benefit from investing in U.S. stocks and find ways to make U.S. dollars online from my country.
