8 Reasons You Should Start a Blog

Twenty years ago, a blog did not exist. Today, there are more than 500 million of them. With the rise of social media and influencer culture, it seems like blogging has reached its peak. Blogging is fast becoming the quickest way to express yourself online. Moreover, it is a great way to meet people who have the same interest niche.

I decided to become a blogger for "Billionaire Bunny" because of the many benefits it comes with. Even though 'blogging' has hit it big, most people do not get what makes blogging so powerful, helpful, and beneficial.

At the beginning of my blogging career, I did not know the benefits blogging has. It was until I started the journey of blogging, I found the benefits it comes with. You'll be surprised by the benefits if you start your own blog now. In this article, I would like to share the benefits of having your own personal blog and why it is essential for your career and business.

1. Express Yourself
Having your own blog enables you to express yourself in the online world through words and images. I had a lot of fun being able to express myself in this blog. A person who reads or follows my blog can understand more about me.

I'm considered to be an introvert when I am outside with my friends. I do not usually talk about my opinions, ideas, or believes to people. I am worried that people might judge me for being a certain way, and I felt uncomfortable about it.

Creating this blog has helped me express myself more. I can share my plan, goal, ideas, and beliefs through writing content in this blog. It is exciting, and I enjoy it a lot. In this blog, I now can express the plan and goal to achieve the financial freedom I always wanted.

2. Become a Better Writer
Becoming a blogger can make you into a better writer. I used to hate writing when I was in college and university. I did very poorly when I have an essay assignment to work on. It was challenging for me even to write a few pages. However, because I become a blogger now, I am required to write a lot.
The more I blog, the more I write, which led me to become a better writer. I can write pages of article content without much of a problem. It is really fun and enjoyable for me to write now. Moreover, I am also using Grammarly application service that helps me with my writing. I'm able to see my grammatical mistakes in my writings instantly.

I felt through the journey of me becoming a blogger, I have become a better writer. I'm not trying to be biased since my friend told me that my writing had improved dramatically. Also, writing is an important skill to have. Most professional jobs out there require you to have a good writing skill. I feel pleased about improving my writing skills. Through writing, I can express myself more efficiently and share any ideas I have in my mind.

3. Take Control of Your Online Identity.
Whether you are a person or a business, there is lots of information about you online. When somebody searches for you online, you want to make sure that they get an accurate and complete picture of who you are and what you are all about.
Starting a blog that covers all the bases is a great way to control your online identity and make sure that the top result on Google makes the right first impression. I did not regret a single bit of starting my personal finance blog.

With this blog, I have met great people in the online world. For example, I met Chris Lee Susanto, a blogger, and a value investing mentor. Because both of us own a blog of our own, we can understand each other more. Chris had become a great and close friend of mine to this day. I would not be able to meet him if it was not for our blog.

4. Being a Blogger, Helps You Get a Better Job.
According to MediaBistro, nine in ten companies mine online profiles before making a new hire. An employer wants to hire people who have a strong online influence—having a personal blog lets employers out there to understand more about you. It is like having a job resume. An organized and detailed blog can help get your bio out there. Employers prefer to hire people with a positive online influence, and blogging in the best single best way to achieve that.

I have my personal finance blog since the year of 2015. My blog web page has a live spreadsheet portfolio of my dividend stock positions in the United States. I am able to share with the public the performance of my stock portfolio.

Having this blog can help me look for jobs that I have a high interest in. For example, I think it would be much easier to apply for a job as a financial analyst if I have a blog in that niche. A potential employer can read my blog to know more about me before actually meeting in person.

I'm not planning to look for a job in Indonesia; however, if I decide to look for one, my blog can be used in my resume. It's a great way to introduce myself to potential employers who are thinking of hiring me to work in their company. For example, they can read my 'About Me' page in my blog to know more about my background. They can know about my investment history and my understanding of the stock market.

5. Having a Blog, Helps You Start a Business.
Sometimes, a blog starts out as a hobby. You will be surprised by how this hobby can become a full-time business. I have started blogging in the year 2015. In the beginning, I have no intention of using it for my business. I created my personal finance blog to share my interest and knowledge about personal finance and stock investing to the public.

After I was in the middle of the journey of becoming a blogger, I realized that having a blog can help me start a business. As I build a community of readers to my blog, I am building a name brand for myself. By providing value to readers, I am soon become recognizable in the online community.

I hope that my finance blog you readers are reading right now can become a successful business one day. I am nowhere near to reaching that goal at the moment. However, if I put the time and dedication to keep writing content for this blog, I can somehow make this blog reach that potential.

An example of a business I can use to use this blog is to sell online courses or my own publishing book to the public. If people know more about me, they are more likely to purchase something I am offering. Also, since I'm planning to become a YouTuber, a personal blog of my own is essential. People out there want to know about a person they see online. A blog like mine can help give information to the public about the kind of person I am. Reading the content I have posted in my blog can give viewers a sense of the kind of things they can learn from me.

6. Make Passive Income from Your Blog
If you have an established blog, you can actually monetize it with Google Adsense. My personal blog is already signed up with Google Adsense. I am already making some passive income from owning my blog. It is not much money now because my blog is still pretty new. If I keep working on my blog, it can eventually be a great source of passive income. I will not focus on the earnings now but to focus on creating fresh, valuable content for readers to read.

Money is not a priority for me right now. I felt that if I put my mind to creating value for readers, my blog would be successful in return. I want to blog because it is my passion and hobby. I like sharing personal finance ideas and investment ideas with the public. I want to be able to inspire people out there to become financially independent. I think being able to help someone become financially literate means a lot to me.

7. Creates Many Opportunities
Starting a blog creates endless opportunities for its owner, whether it be in the form of friendship, financial gain, or self-growth, blogging certainly puts your personality out there to the world and gets you noticed uniquely.

I believe the blog I have created had led me to many opportunities. I was able to meet people who have the same interest as me and become a friend. Most importantly, I was able to create a brand of myself on the internet. Having a personal brand of my identity can one day be used for business opportunities. For example, I can one day work together with a friend that I met through blogging to start a business together. This is just an example of an opportunity of having your own blog. I am sure there are plenty more.

8. Building a Blog is Simple and Cheap.
Creating your own blog is really simple and costs very low. There are many blogging platforms out there on the internet. If you are looking to create one without spending money, platforms such as Blogger (Blogspot) offer free of charge to create your own blog.

I did not spend a dime creating my blog. Since the Blogger platform is free, all I had to pay for is my blog website's domain name. It's approximately about $10 a year. Also, I used free templates to make my blog looks professional and organized. Whatever you see in this blog is created by me. I did not hire a web designer to design my blog.

It's not difficult to create your own blog. You can self-learn to make one. It might look confusing initially; however, after playing around with the platform, you will soon understand how to use the platform. I am not a genius, and if I can create a blog by myself, I'm sure you guys can too!

Conclusion
I hope this article you readers have just read can inspire you to create your own blog. Not only blogging can be an enjoyable hobby to have, but a blog of your own is also really beneficial for your self-development, career development as well as your own business.
If you are interested in increasing your online exposure while establishing yourself as an expert in your industry, then you will definitely want to take advantage of blogging as a marketing strategy. When it comes to small businesses, blogging is virtually a must.

A Blog helps you to connect with people all over the world. A blog of your own is like having a business card. By having a blog of your own, people can go to your blog to know more about you. Creating one is really simple and does not cost a dime. So what are you waiting for? Go out there and create your own little space on the internet. You will not regret it!
